Beloved by a global fan base, Code Geass became a cultural icon in the 2000s. Crunchyroll’s Home Entertainment team was tasked with creating the company’s first collector’s edition of its kind, with an MSRP more than double our previous releases.

When we began in 2018, we recognized that media ownership was shifting towards fandom trophies. With fans aging into more disposable income, we saw the potential for unprecedented high-end products—and couture was our inspiration.

We designed an original pattern, incorporating symbols from Code Geass. Working closely with licensors under strict guidelines, we managed to secure approval for over 30 unique pieces of official artwork.

This collection had to redefine Home Video. From functional drawers to foam inserts, the packaging was designed to be repurposed as a permanent storage case. We also included original, exclusive items, like a 1:1 replica chess set from the show, all while maintaining a balance between quality and weight.

The project took over five years, and launched just in time for the 2023 holiday season. It became Crunchyroll’s top Home Entertainment SKU, driving excitement and proving that the Code Geass Collector’s Edition is leading a promising shift in the industry.
